Farm Stays

Milking cows, feeding chickens, gathering eggs and petting lambs - these are just some of the traditional farm activities guests of all ages can experience firsthand with a farm stay in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. More than 30 of Lancaster County's family farms have now opened their doors to guests as B&Bs, providing a combination of a peaceful atmosphere and diverse activities that all create an experience to remember. Farm stays provide entertainment for the whole family and shows what life is really like "down on the farm".

Accommodations on these working farms are cozy and charming. Guests generally stay in an inviting country farmhouse with plenty of room for guests. Before breakfast each morning, kids are invited to visit the henhouse to gather eggs for the morning feast or stop by the milking parlor to assist with the morning milking. If the timing's right, they might even be able to witness the birth of the farm's newest calf!

As guests sit down for breakfast, they immediately know they're in for a meal like no other.  The smell of freshly-baked breads and muffins fills the air, and as guests pass platter after platter of eggs, bacon, breads and fruit - the family atmosphere invites plenty of laughs. After breakfast, there's plenty of exploring to be done. Some farms offer family hayrides through the countryside, or guests may choose to simply relax on the porch with a book or curl up in a hammock to watch the sun set.

Stays at these working farm B&Bs are so welcoming and comfortable, guests often feel as though they're paying a visit to family or old friends. These farm stays immediately let guests feel right at home, and many guests return to the same farms year after year. Whether looking for a new adventure or a better perspective on life, farm stays allow visitors to relax and lose themselves in the serenity and charm of Pennsylvania Dutch Country.
