Family fun: 3-day sample itinerary

Day 1

Morning

Buggy Ride: Discover the countryside the way the Amish do, with a ride on an authentic Amish buggy. A peaceful ride in a horse-pulled buggy offers unique insight into the Amish way of life and gives new appreciation for the idyllic countryside.  


Afternoon

Warm weather fun:
An afternoon adventure at Dutch Wonderland: Make the kids happy with 30 fun-filled rides and an interactive water play area called Duke's Lagoon.  This 48-acre amusement park is just big enough to contain the laughter and smiles of the little ones in your family. 

Year-'round fun:
Visit a recreation of an Amish homestead or village: Tour a house, farm or village set up to look like a typical Amish homestead or community. You'll learn how the Amish live and how they manage without electricity and other modern conveniences. For rainy day entertainment, try some of our many museums, some of which are geared specifically toward children!


Evening

Dinner: Pennsylvania Dutch style! Enjoy traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine served family-style, where diners sit at long tables and pass around heaping platters filled with fried chicken, baked sausage, brown buttered noodles, chow chow, and much more!


Overnight Lodging

Maybe it's Lancaster County's fresh country air…or the fun-filled pace. Or all that down-home cooking! Whatever the reason, when it's time to turn in, cozy, comfortable accommodations get to be a top priority. That's why you'll find such a variety of warmly welcoming hotels, motelsB&Bsworking farms, and country inns  here in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country.  So you can feel right at home, away from home.


Day 2

Morning

Warm weather fun:
Navigate the Amazing Maize Maze: Located in the heart of PA Dutch Country, Cherry-Crest Farm  is a unique place where fun, family, and farming come together. It is here your family will maneuver through the twists and turns of the Amazing Maize Maze. Navigating the maze takes teamwork and patience - it's a terrifically fun challenge! 

Year-'round fun:
Take a spin up to Hershey, an easy 40 minute drive, and pick up a cup of hot cocoa made with real Hershey's chocolate. Take a free chocolate-making tour ride, become an "official" employee at the Hershey Factory Works and experience all that Hershey has to offer.


Afternoon

Explore the village of Intercourse: Spend some time in the quaint village of Intercourse. Visit quilt and craft shops and discover the time honored canning tradition, where Amish women still make jams and jellies by hand.  Stroll along the streets as Amish buggies pass by and try your hand at twisting a pretzel in one of Intercourse's topnotch shops.


Evening

Warm weather fun:
"Play Ball" at Clipper Magazine Stadium, home of the Lancaster Barnstormers! More than just baseball, this state-of-the-art stadium offers affordable and fun family entertainment.  Fans will enjoy the largest Kids' Play Area in minor league baseball, concession stands offering a "taste of Lancaster," unique promotions and giveaways and "up close" seats that will allow you to feel that you are part of the game! 

In chillier times:
Be sure to plan a visit to the Snow Magic Fun Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster. This winter outdoor attraction features the world's first temperature independent snow making system. Enjoy two snow tubing slopes - family and extreme! 


Day 3

Morning

Explore Strasburg, home to all things trains! Take a seat on an old steam engine for a 45-minute ride through the countryside while relaxing to the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels rolling down the rails. See hundreds of collections of model trains and miniature communities, dine in a caboose or discover the history behind the trains. It's all waiting for you in Strasburg. "All aboard!"
