Road Trips & Itineraries
Experience Agritourism: 3-Day Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Morning

Buggy Ride: Discover the countryside the way the Amish do, with a ride on an authentic Amish buggy. A peaceful ride in a horse-pulled buggy offers unique insight into the Amish way of life and gives new appreciation for the idyllic countryside.

Afternoon

Warm weather fun:
Fun, Family and Farm - plan for a half day or longer while you and your family laugh and learn through the many wholesome activities that await you on Cherry Crest Adventure Farm, a unique place where fun, family and farming come together.  It is here your family will maneuver through the twists and turns of the Amazing Maize Maze, take the Farm Tour Wagon Ride, tumble into the Hay Jump, race on the Pedal Kart Tracks, enjoy the Singing Chicken Show and much much more!

Year-'round fun:
Take a spin up to Hershey, an easy 40 minute drive, and pick up a cup of hot cocoa made with real Hershey's chocolate. Take a free chocolate-making tour ride, become an "official" employee at the Hershey Factory Works and experience all that Hershey has to offer. See the effects of farming outside the boundaries of Lancaster. Founder of Hershey's chocolate empire, Milton Hershey, saw that there was no better place to make rich milky candy treats than in central Pennsylvania where the multitude of dairy farms made it the perfect location for purchasing one of the central ingredients in Hershey's chocolate.

Evening

Dinner: Pennsylvania Dutch  style! Enjoy traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine served family-style, where diners sit at long tables and pass around heaping platters filled with fried chicken, baked sausage, brown buttered noodles, chow chow, and much more!

Overnight Lodging

Discover the world of agritourism with an overnight at one of Lancaster County's popular working farms! Find out what life's like "down on the farm" firsthand. Help milk the cows, feed calves, gather eggs, and enjoy a hearty country breakfast!

Day 2

All Day

Warm weather fun:
Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park: Spend the day exploring the 30-plus rides, attractions, games, and water play that make up Dutch Wonderland - specifically designed for younger children! Play with mascot Duke the Dragon, and get wet in Duke's Lagoon, a fantastic interactive water play area!

Year-'round fun:
Explore Strasburg, home to all things trains! Take a seat on an old steam engine for a 45-minute ride through the countryside while relaxing to the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels rolling down the rails. See hundreds of collections of model trains and miniature communities, dine in a caboose or discover the history behind the trains. It's all waiting for you in Strasburg. "All aboard!"

Day 3

Morning

Central Market in Lancaster: Take a stroll through the country's oldest continuously operating farmers market for a true sense of Lancaster County's agricultural bounty!  Sample the very freshest meats, produce, breads, and much more as you chat with standholders and shopping "regulars." Lots more farmers' market options, too!
