Founded in 1989, Theater of the Seventh Sister strives to produce thought-provoking, compelling live theatre. With programming including classics, new and contemporary plays, experimental theatrical forms, educational theater, and outreach programs, Seventh Sister is a fusion of professional artists whose mission is to speak to an increasingly diverse and multi-cultural community.

At Seventh Sister, theater is more than simply the popular entertainment of traditional musicals and comedies. It is a place where we, as a society, can raise important questions relating to our humanity and our place in the universe. Theater gives us the opportunity to explore life's complexities through the eyes of individual characters: people who, like us, do not have all the answers, but must continue the process of making choices that affect their lives and the lives of others.

In addition to the Mainstage series, Theater of the Seventh Sister offers Free Shakespeare in Long's Park every summer, staged readings of never-before-seen plays by emerging playwrights, and Summer Shakespeare Camp for Teens, a hands-on theatrical summer education. Seventh Sister also produces a Winter Dance Festival, featuring the work of local choreographers and dancers, and a Spoken Word Festival, featuring artists from up and down the East Coast.
